Evaluating California's Ethnic Studies Curriculum
Beginning in 2025, California high schools will implement a statewide Ethnic Studies requirement, marking a critical shift toward inclusive curriculum. While this milestone offers a powerful opportunity for educational equity, it also presents complex challenges. As the field of Ethnic Studies continues to evolve, questions remain about its definition, implementation, and best practices at the K–12 level.
This research explores these questions with the goal of identifying effective approaches to teaching Ethnic Studies in secondary education. By analyzing current resources, pedagogies, and educator experiences, this work seeks to bridge existing gaps and support teachers in integrating meaningful and accurate ethnic narratives into their classrooms. Ultimately, this project aims to empower educators to cultivate inclusive, informed learning environments that reflect the diverse identities of their students.
